Oregon Coast to Boise Day 2 Tuesday September 10, 2019

Today starts in Eureka, California
And finishes in Coos Bay, Oregon

Places Visited Along The Way, Photos, and Notes
In Eureka, I like to stay at the Best Western Plus Bayshore Inn,
They have a garden area for rooms in that space

A highlight is a koi pond
In 1956 our family moved from LA to Eureka
My dad became 1/3 partner with his two cousins Donny and Irv
in a truck terminal.  the first in Northern California
The business failed in about 1958-9 in large part because of Don's hand in the till

Since that time, the space has been empty
save for some very brief stints by one business of another
Almost 60 years the property has lain unused
Last year I visited and took a photo
This year, they tore the building down and are constructing more stuff
Humboldt County Courthouse
Redwood Harley-Davidson
Between Eureka and Arcata, US-101 runs along Humboldt Bay
It is often very foggy and has unguarded intersections
Traffic is limited to 55 MPH and headlights are to be on

Arcata has become the tie-dye capital of Northern California
Hence, one often sees some hippie-mobiles
Trinidad Post Office, 357 Main St
Orick, Post Office
Prairie Creek Visitor Center and the Newton B. Drury Scenic Pkwy Exit 753

Some of these trees are over 2,000 years old.
Klamath is actually on the Yurok Indian Reservation along with the tribe's casino
Trees of Mystery Tourist Attraction
Been stopping there for well over 1/2 century
Crescent City, Del Norte County, California
Chart Room 130 Anchor Way (south end of town) for lunch

There are people made out of old crab traps
I know of some old people who are crabs
Years ago, they anchored some rafts on the marina
Now these have been taken over by very noisey sea lions

Del Norte County Courthouse, 450 H St
Battery Point Lighthouse and Museum 235 Lighthouse Way
(photos coming later)
Gold Beach, Curry County, Oregon
Gold Beach Ranger Station, Rogue River - Siskiyou N.F. (south end of town)

History of Gold Beach

Curry County Courthouse 29821 Ellesnburg Ave (US-101)

The roads are beautiful, often right on the water's edge

The going was often foggy and got some real rain for about two miles
Wet, wet, wet
BandonCoos CountyOregon
right on the coast, has a nice beach boardwalk and marina

There are many sculptures by local artists
This is sort of the ultimate "You are here" information "map"

There is a group who collect plastic trash on the beach and make sculpures

Trying to make the point that we need to do better with out trash
Coos Bay, Coos County, Oregon
Highway 101 HD Dealer, 536 S 2nd St

I am staying at the Red Lion Hotel.  Not very good
